[edit] MSN(R) Messenger

You can use your MSN Messenger client to access your rhub account. The commands you can issue are the same console commands you can with email, SMS and so on.

[edit] Setting it up

  1. If you haven't already, you first need set up your profile and tell rhub your MSN Messenger address (e.g., your Passport address such as example@hotmail.com).
  2. Add msn@rhub.net to your contacts list
  3. You're all set!

Privacy: If you'd like to keep your Messenger address private, simply edit your privacy settings.

[edit] Receiving Messages on MSN

If a message should be delivered to you via MSN, rhub will not do so if your MSN status is Offline/Appear Offline, Away, Be Right Back or Out to Lunch. It will message you if you are Online, Busy or On the Phone.

This mechanism isn't perfect, so where possible enable MSN's "automatically set me to away after X minutes of inactivity", or set your MSN status manually.

[edit] Doing things with MSN

You can use any console command using MSN. Simply start up a conversation with 'rhub' (msn@rhub.net) using your MSN client and send the commands. For example, to send a rhub message to John, send:

>John: Hey there!

Or to set your location to be Home Base, send:

@home

And so on.

[edit] Special Considerations

[edit] Automatic Responses

Some MSN clients support sending automatic responses when you are away from your computer. This may have the side effect of sending unintended replies to groups you receive messages from. To counter this, we'll drop any message from MSN that starts with:

If your client uses a different format, please let us know and we can add it too.
