[edit] Messaging

[edit] Overview

Rhub supports two main forms of messaging, discussions and instant messaging.

[edit] Discussions vs. Instant Messaging

Briefly, discussions are persistent and threaded (e.g. a forum or bulletin board) whilst instant messages are transient and a single stream (e.g. a Messenger session).

Discussions are best for: long, topic-orientated conversations. Topics, or 'threads' are archived and can are always available. Your original message can be replied to by others, continuing the topic thread. Discussions are organised according to topics, with most recently updated topics shown first.

Instant Messages (IMs) are best for: short and quick, 'now'-orientated messages. Messages can be forwarded, and are automatically removed from the web after a short period of time. IMs are organised in a single stream, with the newest message shown first.

[edit] Discussions

Discussions are always attached to something. Rhub current supports discussions for groups and locations. In order to start a discussion, reply to a topic, or view topics, you must visit the rhub page for the related item. Just look for the discussion button on the appropriate page.

[edit] Instant Messages

Instant messages (IMs) work much like MSN(R) Messenger messages or SMSs. Like discussions, you can send IMs to a group or location. Members of the group or people at the location will receive the IM. It's also viewable for a period of time on the web at group or location's page.

Unlike discussions, you can also send IMs directly to a particular person, send IMs on the go as well as receive messages on the go

You can also send a message to friends at a location or even send a message to all your friends
