What happens if you are receiving too many SMSes for your liking, yet don't want to leave a group or turn off all forwards?
Filters let you customise which messages get forwarded to you via SMS, MSN etc. You can set filters on a per group basis, so it's completely up to you how use use them.
You can use a preset filter if it'll do the job, or you can create your own. See the below links for more information on setting a filter.
Privacy note: Other group members will see what filtering you are using for that group,
Filtering happens based on the content of messages, i.e. the words themselves. Example: If your filter requires the word 'cafe' and its not in the message, you won't get it forwarded to you.
Filters use a simple syntax, kind of like a query you might use for a web search engine. For example, if you want to only get messages with that contain 'cafe' or 'beer', the filter you can use is 'cafe beer'. If you want to only get messages that contain BOTH 'cafe' and 'beer', you can use '&cafe beer'. It's quite simple and the Message Filters Lab lets you experiment and test your filters.
To read more about how to set a filter, see the Message Filter Syntax topic.
