Rhub makes it super easy to message people you've tagged as a friend using the Console.

[edit] How to do it

The format of the command is simple: >> [message] or >friends [message]

Example: Sends 'anyone going out?' to your friends
>>Anyone going out?

You can send this using your phone, instant messaging client or via the web console.

[edit] What they get

Each friend will get the same message, and when they reply it will go straight back to you - not everyone. If you want to make it easy for groups to talk together, consider making a group, it's quick and easy to do.
